Male Northern Cardinal with bug in beak

Buy this picture

This Male Northern Cardinal caught a bug and looks like he is presenting me his trophy! He perched on some rocks by a stream, so I photographed him because his brilliant red color contrasted beautifully with the rocks. He offered me the extra favor of capturing this bug, which looks like a beetle. Northern Cardinals typically eat seeds and berries and nuts, but I presume they also ingest beetles.
