Common, but not Commonly Seen

The Tuliptree, Liriodendron tulipifera, is a common tree in the southeastern US. It is a tall tree that grows on the upper edges of wetlands. The flowers are a beautiful green with orange and yellow markings with a tulip shape, which explains the common name for the tree. However, the flowers are usually well up these tall trees, so they are not a common flower to see on a stroll through the woods.
