Excavator moving a trench box
Buy this picture
In the original attempt to move the trench box with the excavator, the box was attached to the hook on the excavator by cable and the operator lifted straight up. The strain on the arm caused the machine sitting on soft spoil to tilt dangerously. The cable was unhooked and the operator used the arm to right the machine. Once the machine was repositioned, the operator just reached out with the arm to pull the trench box out of the trench. For a good operator, the excavator arm and head are an extension of his body and he uses them with same dexterity that he uses the hands he was born with.
